Anupama Chopra of India Today gave the film 2.5/5 stars and said, "Chalte Chalte is a film that's been pulled out of a hat with scenes that haven't been written with any sensitivity to narrative or character." She added, "Rohit Shetty has an instinctive feel for slapstick comedies and he uses it to his advantage in Chalte Chalte. He's also learnt from his mistakes in Dil Chahta Hai. He doesn't use too many songs." Taran Adarsh of Bombay Times gave the film 2. 5/5 stars and said, "For all its inadequacies, Chalte Chalte is a watchable film on account of its on-screen chemistry between Kader Khan and Shatrughan Sinha. The film has the ingredients of a good entertainer but unfortunately, Shetty's script is not up to the mark." Zubin Fakir of Filmfare gave the film 1.5/5 stars and said, "If you like slapstick comedy with lots of underdrawings and some numpty and nutter dialogues thrown in (which I am sure you will), then this one's for you."
